The Super Soldier Serum is a chemical solution developed by Dr. Abraham Erskine. The serum was formulated to enhance the human body and mind, and was utilized by the US military in World War II to create the world's most advanced soldiers. Steve Rogers was the only successful experiment, thus becoming the superhero Captain America.
History[]
World War II[]
After successfully creating the serum, Dr. Abraham Erskine and the Strategic Scientific Reserve began Project: Rebirth to create super-soldiers to combat the growing power of the Axis Powers. Dr. Erskine selected Steve Rogers for the procedure. The serum was partnered with Vita-Rays which turned Rogers to a lean, tall and more muscular person, becoming the first super-soldier.
The serum was lost when Heinz Kruger, a Nazi spy killed Dr. Erskine and destroyed all evidences. The last remaining serum was destroyed during a chase between him and Rogers. The serum was replaced by Steve Rogers' blood which only contained small amounts of power of the formula.

- Johann Schmidt/Red Skull - forcibly ordered Dr. Erskine to inject the imperfect serum which deformed his face but gave him enhanced abilities.
